Recent Awards and Accomplishments:

Barbara Quinn was a finalist for the Times Union-St. Peter's Health Partners Mother of the Year award.  The award celebrates mothers who are committed to their families and communities while serving as positive role models and touching the lives of those around them. Barbara, the mother of two sons, was an elementary school teacher before becoming the Director of St. John's/St. Ann's Outreach Center.  Under her leadership over the past 10 years, the Center has helped many families and individuals in Albany's South End.

Special congratulations to Barbara who also received her Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from St. Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry this month.  Graduation was held on May 10, 2013 in Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester, NY.

Mary Briggs, volunteer coordinator for the Center's furniture program, received the Albany County Executive's Volunteer Award for her dedication and willingness to reach out and help so many of our neighbors..  This award recognizes volunteers in the capital region who have demonstrated dedication and commitment to our community through their volunteer efforts.

Originally from Maryland, Mary has spent most of her life in the Capital Region.  Mary is retired from a successful career as a teacher. She has been happily married to her husband Dave for 51 years, with whom she has four children and seven grandchildren.  She has been volunteering for the Center since 1995.  She feels that there is a tremendous need for furniture in the South End, and she takes pride in helping to fill that need through our Furniture Program.  She loves to see how grateful our neighbors are when they receive their furniture.  We are so happy that Mary is part of our team at the Center.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Thanks to the Tanski family, the Welcome Table provided a special meal to celebrate Cinco De Mayo.   The highlight of the meal was make your own beef tacos with salsa, shredded lettuce, sour cream, shredded cheese and sliced olives.    Mexican rice and confetti corn were served with the tacos and ice cream sundae with a fiesta cookie or dessert.

A Big Thank You

Our thanks to the United States Post Office for over 4300 pounds of much needed food they delivered to the Center as a result of their Food Drive.

And Last but not Least
Nate Charbit
, our Vista Volunteer, produced  a video on the Center. He presented the video at Siena College and won two awards: Best New Filmmaker and Most Impactful.

A special thanks to Nate for this production.  The video does a great job of capturing what impact the Center has on our neighbors.  If you have not seen this interesting story of how your financial support directly helps people, you can view the video clicking on the picture on the left.
