Writing Partnership/GED Program Graduates Fifteen

Writing Partnership/GED Program

St. John’s/St. Ann’s Outreach Center recognizes that education is the key to success. The Center has been offering free academic services to Capital District residents (with no eligibility requirements) for over four years. The program relies heavily upon the help of the community for recruitment of participants, mentoring, teaching, and operations. In the past, the GED Program received a small grant, since expired, from the NY Higher Education Service Corporation (NYHESC) to extend its services to include College Prep.

GED program participants recently toured Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Regular GED classes are held every Tuesday at 5:00 P.M., and Math Prep classes are held on Mondays at 5:00 P.M. The Center also partners with Siena College to offer a Community Engaged Writing Partnership every Thursday at 6:00 P.M. Members of the community are partnered with Siena students and are encouraged to write narratives. This helps prepare members of the community for higher education while also allowing the Siena students to improve their writing skills. The Partnership allows both groups to gain valuable perspectives and insights.
